Lage Vuursche

Lage Vuursche is originally one of the few castle settlements in the Netherlands. Lage Vuursche originated around 1640, when Hofstede Drakenstein got a new castle lord. This castle lord had houses built for his staff, together with a court and a tollhouse. Castle Drakenstein has been owned by Princess Beatrix since 1959. For years she lived here with Prince Claus and their three princes. In 1980 she became queen and left the family to The Hague.Since February 2014, Princess Beatrix has been inhabited Drakenstein Castle, she is once again the official resident of Lage Vuursche.

In a number of old buildings on the Dorpsstraat, within walking distance of "De Spar", you will find several restaurants with delightful terraces. You can enjoy a cup of coffee, an ice cream or a complete dinner. Restaurant De Vuursche Boer can not be skipped during your stay: here they serve pancakes, a real Dutch specialty.

Nature around Lage Vuursche

The woods around Lage Vuursche covers 1171 hectares of contiguous forest and is part of the Utrechtse Heuvelrug. Ideally suited as a walking and cycling area: within reach are the Loosdrechtse-lakes, river Vecht-area, the Hilversum-heath, the Soester-drift dunes and the polder-area between Eemnes and Spakenburg. Since 2008, the entire area has been provided with the bicycle nodes network.

Culture sniffing!

Lage Vuursche is located in the triangle Utrecht, Amersfoort and Hilversum. This location makes this place ideal for cultural trips in the surrounding. Even smaller towns such as Laren, Naarden and Spakenburg are within cycling distance and are very worthwhile!

But the big cities such as Amsterdam, Rotterdam or The Hague are also easy to reach. For example, from railwaystation Hilversum you are in 20 trainminutes in the heart of Amsterdam. The P&R is also a good way for visiting the capital of Holland.
